Elab medium-sized Raptors Project 2 Red kite

The Red kite is a medium-sized, sedentary raptor. Due to recent declines, the Spanish population of this species is currently classified as in danger of extinction and the regional, Andalusian population as in critical danger of extinction (Photo Credit: F. Sergio).

Red kites are soaring predators that can range extremely far. This potentially exposes them to mortality and contamination risks from areas outside the national park, but such threats are still completely unknown.

GPS-telemetry would allow a better identification of the causes of casualties affecting the Red kite population of Doñana National Park. Such information is essential for a more rational planning of the management of this population.
